Bringing music to children
through stories and colours.

From piano methods to illustrated story books — carefully crafted works that make a child’s first encounter with music easier.

ad libitum — an Italian musical term: “freely, at one’s own pace.” That is exactly why Libitum Publishing exists: so that every child can step into music at their own speed, with their own joy.

Ela and Kanat’s Musical Journeys

Assoc. Prof. Elif Gökçe Türkili

When Ela’s new piano arrives, what comes out of the box looks nothing like a piano — first she thinks it is a sea lion, then a dinosaur, then a stingray! But once she hugs it and they get to know each other, she realises it is a very special friend who comes to life, talks, gives her wings and lifts her into the sky: Kanat. On their musical journey together they fly from Moscow to Vienna, meet the great composers and, most of all, return home with love.

Getting ready for print

A piano method for children starting with notation, and a work that brings the same language of colour and shape to the violin — both are being prepared for publication.

Basic Steps for Keyboard - 1

Assoc. Prof. Elif Gökçe Türkili

A beginner piano method for children, learned through notation. The black keys become green pine trees and red-roofed houses, low and high sounds become big and small animals, and the notes become characters children remember. Illustrated pieces and games lead step by step to reading music — and a certificate of achievement awaits every young pianist at the end of the book.

First Steps of a Little Artist: Violin Book

Dr. Erman Türkili

The First Steps of a Little Artist piano method adapted for the violin, built on the same philosophy of colour and shape. It was created for children on the autism spectrum, for those for whom standard notation is a barrier, or simply for any child holding a violin for the first time — 46 pieces, a journey guided by ear and by colour without a single note name written down.

The story behind us

Libitum Publishing was founded by a family to present music to young children not as an intimidating pile of technical knowledge, but as a playground to be discovered through colours, shapes and stories.

Academic & Pianist

Pianist and music educator; author of the BSK — Basic Steps for Keyboard method and of Ela and Kanat’s Musical Journeys. For years, the approaches tested on stage and in the classroom have been turned into a language every child can understand — colours, shapes and stories.

All our books share one belief: when they meet the right method, no child is afraid of music. First steps at the piano, talking pianos, flying violins — all serve this single purpose. Our catalogue is growing; new instruments and new stories are on the way.

Our Ecosystem

Libitum Publishing is part of the music education work our family has carried out for many years.
